Join us for this unique hand lettering workshop where we'll get to both improve our hand lettering skills and enjoy the munchies available at Modern Market! Letterpress printer and hand lettering wiz Melanie Ouellette Karlins will walk us through the process of drafting and beautifying a recipe using watercolors and markers. All materials included as well as 1 drink (includes beer & wine) and buffet-style pizza and salad. Just bring yourself and a simple recipe with up to 5 steps to letter.

About the Instructor: Melanie Ouellette Karlins is a letterpress printer in Northeast DC. Melanie started printing in 2008 when she needed a creative outlet during her time in law school. She learned to print, racked up lots of volunteer hours, and then taught letterpress classes at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center (now in Hyattsville). Since 2011, Melanie has designed and printed greeting cards under the wholesale and retail line Grey Moggie Press. She has exhibited the line at the National Stationery Show and sold the greeting cards at Crafty Bastards, Eastern Market, and many other local craft fairs. Recently, Melanie has started adding hand-lettered elements to her greeting cards and is excited to share this medium with others. You can see her work at greymoggie.com.

This workshop is a collaboration between Grey Moggie Press, the Unofficial Hand Lettering Society of Silver Spring and Modern Market.

Participants will take away with one watercolor 8 x10 watercolor recipe of their making.
